On March 25, 2025 in an effort to combat unnecessary costs, delays, lost checks and potential fraud, President Trump signed Executive Order 14247 – “Modernizing Payments To and From America’s Bank Account.” This mandate, which takes effect September 30, 2025, requires all payments made to or from the IRS be done electronically (via electronic funds transfer).
Electronic tax return payments and direct deposit tax return refunds can be set up via our tax software when filing your tax return if you provide NCA with your bank account information; however, once payments via our tax software are chosen and the tax return is filed, updates cannot be made.
For payments not initiated by our tax return software after September 30th, other payment options instructions are:
Individual Tax Payments (e.g., Form 1040 and certain business income tax under $10 million)
Payments can be directly remitted using IRS Direct Pay (www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay-with-bank-account)
1. Click on “Make a Payment”.
2. Select the reason for payment (e.g., “Estimated Tax”).
3. Choose the appropriate tax form and tax year.
4. Enter your personal information (name, SSN, etc.) to verify your identity.
5. Enter your bank account information (routing and account numbers).
6. Review the details and submit the payment.
7. Save or print the confirmation for your records.
Payments can also be remitted with a debit or credit card or digital wallet (www.irs.gov/payments/pay-your-taxes-by-debit-or-credit-card), which may be subject to a processing fee.
EFTPS (for individual, fiduciary and business income tax payments)
1. Go to www.IRS.gov to fill out Form 9779.
2. Using Form 9779, Enroll at www.EFTPS.gov. The IRS will send a PIN necessary to make payments through USPS mail which will take between 7 – 10 days to arrive.
3. Go to www.ID.me/government and create an account to securely access government services.
4. Once logged in to ID.me, it will re-direct you to the EFTPS website where you can log in with your EIN/SSN, PIN, and password.
5. Select “Make a Payment.”
6. Enter your tax form, payment amount, and tax period.
7. Verify bank account info (if not already stored).
8. Submit your payment and record your confirmation number.
Create an IRS account (ID.me)
The IRS offers a sign in option (ID.me) offering access to IRS online services such as making payments, viewing your online account, payment history, obtain transcripts, obtain a Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) and submit a Power of Attorney (Form 2848) among other services offered. To register, go to www.IRS.gov and provide the requested information.
